Opening Reception is an independent project created and run by I, JoBeth Medina. All content and photography is done by me unless stated otherwise. With that said, the content of this project could not be created without the artist who publicly share their artwork. I am eternally grateful and forever inspired by those who are willing to display a vulnerable aspect of themselves for the world to see.
I have been a creator for what feels like my entire life. I think I was enrolled in my first art class before I was even enrolled for elementary school– I couldn’t write my name yet, but damn it I could draw a cowgirl. I spent a majority of my life feeling like my destiny was to be an artist, but the reality is I just don’t have that overwhelming urge to create everyday, or every month or every year. Rather, art is something I flock to when I just don’t understand life and I need a bit of therapy. However, my love for art is forever a constant in my life. I can’t define it, measure it or understand it but it’s real.
I am a snob when it comes to art. Therefore, what I bring to this website are artist I feel are deliberate and genuine creators. The standards of what you see here will reflect those who produce original content and have a high level of skill and craftsmanship.
